What the dashboard shows, card by card
The dashboard is a web page bound to your Microsoft account, not a tool on your PC, so it looks identical from any browser. Each card is a category of cloud data, and entries only appear if you actually used the related feature while signed in: no Edge sync, no browsing history; no voice features, no recordings. The cards group entries by date, which makes it easy to spot a forgotten device or an old phone still signing in.
Two things the dashboard is not: it is not a mirror of your PC, because files, photos and local documents never appear there. It is also not the full telemetry stream, since the product and service performance card only summarizes diagnostic data. Work and school accounts are governed by a separate tenant with its own admin controls, so a corporate sign-in will show you far less.
- Browsing history — pages visited in Edge while signed in with sync enabled (legacy Internet Explorer data included)
- Search history — Bing queries, including voice searches made with your account
- Location activity — location lookups by Microsoft services such as Find my device
- Voice activity — recordings and transcripts from Microsoft apps that used signed-in speech
- App and service activity — app launches and service usage tied to your account
- Media activity — music and video played through Microsoft services
How to review and delete each category
Sign in at account.microsoft.com/privacy with the Microsoft account you want to audit, then open each card in turn. Inside a card you can delete single entries with the trash icon or wipe the whole category with the clear button at the top — for example, Clear all search history in the search card. Deletions apply to the cloud copy immediately from your point of view, but Microsoft notes that full removal from every backup system can take up to thirty days.
Before deleting, consider the Download your data link on the dashboard: it produces an archive with the same categories, which is the export right you have under privacy laws like the GDPR. Also understand what deleting does not do — it does not change a single collection setting. To stop the data from accumulating again, you have to switch off the underlying features: ad personalization in the dashboard's ad settings, history and sync options in Edge, and the diagnostic data level in Windows itself.
Where the dashboard ends and what to do next
The dashboard only covers Microsoft's own cloud, so third-party apps and websites track you separately and need their own cleanup. Re-check the cards after every Windows feature update, because sync and personalization settings occasionally reset during big upgrades and silently resume collection. On the Windows side, the matching moves are to set diagnostic data to the required level, turn off the advertising ID, and trim what Edge syncs — each of those shrinks what future dashboard visits will show. A quarterly review is a realistic rhythm: check the cards, clear what you do not want stored, and verify the collection switches are still off.
Questions and Answers
Does the Microsoft privacy dashboard show files from my PC?
No. The dashboard lists cloud-side activity categories tied to your account; documents, photos and other local files never appear there.
How do I delete my Bing search history?
Open the Search history card on the dashboard and use Clear all search history, or delete individual entries. Clearing the browsing history inside Edge is a separate, local cleanup.
Why is my browsing history empty in the dashboard?
Browsing history shows only Edge activity recorded while you were signed in with sync enabled. Other browsers never send data to that card.
